Apple's MacBook Neo: Colorful Design Winks at Students and First-Time Buyers

Apple has unveiled the MacBook Neo, its most affordable laptop in years, targeting students and first-time Mac users.

The company presents the device in vibrant colors—yellow, green, blue, and pink—echoing the iconic flair of past iMac and iBook designs.

Positioned below the MacBook Air, the Neo introduces an entirely new category. Powered by the A18 Pro chip from the iPhone 16 Pro, it features 8 GB of unified memory and storage starting at 128 GB.

To achieve its price point (rumored at $599–$799), it compromises on specs: a 12.9-inch display with reduced brightness, no True Tone, no backlit keyboard, and slower SSD. It includes dual USB-C ports, MagSafe charging, and Wi-Fi 7.

The launch coincides with the MacBook Air's price hike to $1,099 for M5 models, creating a $300+ gap. Analysts predict the Neo could drive 25% of Mac sales. Apple built buzz with invite-only events in New York, London, and Shanghai.
