iPhone 17e on the Way: Stronger Hardware and MagSafe at the Same Price

Apple’s upcoming addition to the affordable iPhone lineup, the iPhone 17e, is shaping up to come with significant innovations according to trusted analyst Mark Gurman.

The device is expected to deliver a stronger performance and improved energy efficiency while keeping the price unchanged. This suggests that even budget models may see meaningful performance gains.

A19 chip and MagSafe coming

According to Gurman, the iPhone 17e will be powered by Apple’s new-generation A19 processor, enabling higher performance and better energy efficiency compared with its predecessor. Another notable change is MagSafe support, which was not present on the iPhone 16e. This will expand magnetic accessories and wireless charging solutions for users.

New generation Apple modem and wireless chips

The model is also expected to feature updated connectivity technologies, including Apple’s own C1X cellular modem and N1 wireless chips. These components aim to provide more stable connections, better battery life, and enhanced network performance. Apple’s transition to its own modem and connectivity tech is viewed as a key part of reducing reliance on external suppliers.

Price could stay the same: $599

Despite the planned upgrades, it looks like the price may stay the same. Gurman suggests the iPhone 17e could launch at the same $599 as the iPhone 16e, making it an attractive option for those seeking strong performance at a reasonable price. Indications also point to an imminent unveiling, with some rumors suggesting a February 19 announcement.

Minimal design changes

Design-wise, major changes are not anticipated. The iPhone 17e is likely to retain a design language similar to the iPhone 16e, and it may not include Dynamic Island. Apple seems to be prioritizing performance and connectivity enhancements in this model.

In sum, the iPhone 17e appears poised to be a strong update in the affordable iPhone segment, delivering stronger hardware and new features while maintaining price parity.
